Fifty-six different night bus lines will operate this New Year's Eve into the wee hours of the next morning all over the country, the Transportation Ministry announced on Sunday.
The bus lines will traverse about 65 cities and towns throughout Israel, with bus stops equipped with impromptu "coffee bars" near nightlife centers in Jerusalem, Tel Aviv, Herzliya, Rishon LeZion and Haifa.
"So many young people populate recreation areas, revel until the small hours of the night and consume large quantities of alcohol, and therefore, we decided to operate the night lines all around Israel on this night," said Transportation Minister Yisrael Katz. "I call upon all young people to travel on the night lines rather than taking a risk of driving while intoxicated."
During the school year, night bus lines operate on Thursday and Saturday nights, and in the past year more than 700,000 youths have made use of them, according to the Transportation Ministry. New Year's Eve bus information is available at kav-layla.co.il or at *8787.
